When I was contacted by Hayley & Mitch in early 2016 and they let me know their reception venue I had a great feeling and couldn’t wait to have our initial meeting. Not being bias at all (well maybe a little) but New Hall Hotel & Spa was also my own wedding venue when I was got married 10 years ago in 2008 and it is my favourite venue to photograph. At 800 years old, New Hall Hotel, Sutton Coldfield has a long history of offering exceptional hospitality to discerning guests. There are so many different locations around the venue to get some awesome shots. After meeting with Hayley & Mitch I was very pleased with our connection and couldn’t wait for their big day. They also hired David from Carbyne Media who is our videographer of choice.
Let’s see what the couple had to say about their special day when asked about:
The proposal: The Proposal was personal & perfect, It took place on Christmas Day (my favourite time of year) at my parents house with my Mom, Dad, Sister & Nan there, also there was Mitch’s Mom & Nan! It was a complete surprise! Looking back now.. no wonder Mitch was moaning at me more than normal for being late getting ready AGAIN!!!!!
Your Vision: My vision for the big day had always been classic big white wedding with my colour scheme being hints of blush pink. I’m very particular how I like things so planning a wedding I was in my element It meant a lot to me to get married in the church I was christened in, it’s a beautiful big church & very traditional. From the day we got engaged we knew how we wanted it to look and everything came together perfectly for us.
Your planning: We started planning pretty much straight away, we knew we wanted a summer 2017 wedding and was conscious we had 18 months to plan it all. The first thing we needed to sort was the wedding venue as we knew from this we would be able to visualise everything else. We set up viewings for about 5 venues for that month, as soon as we were set on venue we got deposits down on all the main things such as Photographer, videographer, flowers, cars, church, music & entertainment etc. I am a big Pinterest fan and got loads of inspiration from there also.
Your Venue: We had the ceremony at St Johns Baptist Church Halesowen and our reception at New Hall Hotel & Spa. From the moment we pulled down the drive we knew it was ‘THE ONE’, … New Hall Hotel & Spa we completely fell in love, it was everything we wanted in a venue… the stunning settings, the 18th century history, the perfectly kept moat and grounds, the stunning marquee/pavilion and the feel we got as soon as we walked through the door.. we had found it!!!!
Your dress and accessories: My dress was a White Lace fitted Essence Of Australia dress- Mermaid style from Georgina Scott Bridal. It was about the 4th dress I had ever tried on but when I put it on.. although I tried it on in champagne colour, I knew it was the style for me. I wore a pearl bracelet that my mom wore on her wedding day and the matching necklace my mom wore on her wedding day she sewed onto my garter, my earrings were my something new. My shoes I had purchased from the shop I had my dress from but on the morning of our big day Mitch surprised me with my dream pair of Christian Louboutins in pure white so my other shoes were immediately put back in the box.
The grooms attire: Mitch had a tailor made French connection suit in Navy personalised with ‘Mr & Mrs Butler 21-7-17’ stitched on the inside jacket. The best man and ushers had the same suits. Mitchs shoes were Ted Baker tan brogues and the ushers also wore tan brogues. Mitchs accessories were an Armani watch in silver with navy face and a tan Hugo boss belt I had bought him as gifts on our big day.
Your bridesmaids: My Maid of honour: my sister Kirsty, my chief bridesmaid: my best friend Emma, my bridesmaids: also 2 of my best friends Samantha & Rikki and my cousin Katie From my hen weekend on a cruise to my local hen do night out .. these girls and my mom gave me the best send off as a bride to be. Harley & Hudson our page boys and Izzy my flower girl.
Your flowers: Our florist was Nikki at Every Occasions florist in Stourbridge, she was incredible! We met her and within minutes she got my vision and she knew exactly what I wanted. I’m a big flower fan. Our table plan was flower names and the meaning behind the flowers name e.g our top table was ‘Peonies’ meaning: Happy marriage/ happy life. It was important to me that the flowers were perfect and Nikki blew us away on our big day.
Your Cake: Our cake was made by My brother in laws nan, it was a large 3 tier fruit cake with blush ribbon, our florist added fresh flowers going down it on the day to match the centre pieces on the tables.
Your make-up: I am a make-up artist myself so I did my own makeup on my big day, I also did my moms and bridesmaids.. this was something I wanted to do as I know how I wanted them and it kept me nice and occupied on the morning.
Your Hairdresser: Myself, my Mom & all my bridesmaids had their hair done on the morning of the big day by my hairdresser Stacie @ Envisage! She’s amazing and I was blew away when I saw all the girls with their hair done.. we had so many compliments on our hair, she did a fantastic job. I get people message me all the time and I always recommend her.
The groom, best man, father of the bride & ushers all had their hair done by the wonderful Shay @ The Groomsday Barbershop on the morning of the wedding, they offer a fantastic service of cutting styling and beard trimming along with extras such as beers and cigars to get the lads in the mood for the big day ahead .. they were fab.
Your photographer: Our photographer was Nicolas Rogers Photography. I had seen his Page on Facebook and arranged a meeting to discuss everything. He came to our house and straight away we could see how passionate he was about his work, we looked through his photos and albums and we were excited by the potential outcome of our photos on our big day. We then told Nick our Venue and he immediately looked excited as he got married there too (it was a sign)
Your extras: We had Rebecca Kelly Violinist play as i walked down the isle, she played all our guests in to the church and then sang ‘Christina Perri – A thousand years’ as I did my final walk as a ‘Miss’ with my dad. The acoustics with the violin were incredible in the church. She sang alongside a guitar at our drinks reception too. Our entertainment was ‘Stephen Seabourne – Mystery Guest’. He turned up suited and booted as if he was a regular guest. We hadn’t told people he was coming so it was a lovely surprise. He did Magic, Hypnosis and mind reading. I had never seen anything like it before.. he was incredible, completely blew our guests away. He had a lovely manner and seeing him shock our guests that were skeptics was brilliant.
Your memorable moments: we have so many incredible moments from our big day but to name a few… Hayley’s : I remember being in the car with my dad on the way to the church, we had just left my parents house (5mins from church) and the bells to the church started ringing, I have been listening to those bells since I was a little girl. I remember smiling to myself thinking ‘Those are for me, now it’s my turn’ I will never forget that moment. Mitch’s: I remember being at the alter with my best man, guests were standing and the bridesmaids had done their walk down the isle, my best man leaned to me and gave me the ‘shes coming’ look and it hit me ‘I’m about to get married, everyone is here for us’ an overwhelming feeling came over me and that’s when it hit me it was our big day, the day we had waited so long for.
Your honeymoon: We went on our honeymoon 2 days after our wedding… Our honeymoon was 2 luxurious weeks in Riviera Maya, Mexico! The Hideaway @ Royalton was our hotel, it was the perfect blend of relaxation in paradise and having lots to do to keep us busy, we loved every second and we were never going to be ready to come home
Advice for couples getting married:
H&M: Enjoy the planning. Your big day is over in the blink of an eye, you can’t get it back so enjoy every second of it
Mitch: The wife is always right, And now we’re due to have a baby boy on 13th July we could have a 1st anniversary baby if he’s late.
What a great day it was as well. Sophie & I really did enjoy every minute. The venue did not disappoint either giving us some great shots and also looking after us as well, from a lovely meal and drinks when needed. Thank you New Hall! Here is a review what Hayley & Mitch left us:
We had Nick & Sophie photograph our wedding on Friday 21st July. From the second Nick came to speak to us at our home 2 years ago to receiving our photos yesterday we knew we were in good hands. I can honestly say they were both absolutely fantastic on our big day and to say we were speechless when we received the photos is a huge understatement, I couldn’t speak as I couldn’t stop crying (happy tears of course)! After looking at all our photos we felt like we had just relived our perfect big day all over again. I can’t begin to tell you how impressed we were! Looking for a great photographer? Do not hesitate to book Nick.. completely blew us away! Very proud to call him our photographer and thank you to Sophie for going the extra mile and helping me at our venue to make sure my dress train looked perfect.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You clearly have a passion for what you do and it shows massively
