Emma & Michael – The Belfry hotel & Resort

A beautiful sunny day in May lead us to the Belfry hotel & Resort for the gathering of Emma & Michael’s family and friends. Knowing Emma and Michael from two previous weddings we had captured where Emma was bridesmaid we knew they were great people and they knew how we worked. The venue was beautiful and very well organised, very modern and stylish. As soon as we walked into the room where Emma was getting ready we knew we were in for a great day. The weather was predicted to be heavy showers with thunder storms but all we got was a bright sunny day, which no photographer would complain at. Everything worked like clockwork and the day flew by. So pleased we got to capture their special day. Here’s what the bride has to say:

Tell us about the proposal:

After having our second child, Hudson, we decided to get him christened. We had a party afterwards and had a singer for entertainment. Michael took the mic off the singer and proposed to me on stage in front of all of our friends and family. It was 17th January 2016 at the Laurels, Colley Gate.

Your wedding vision:

At the beginning I didn’t really have a vision or plan but was quickly able to grow one with the help of attending wedding fayres with Michael & my mum. After viewing The Belfry Resort with my mum, bridesmaid Charlotte and her mum (looking for things for Charlotte’s wedding) I set my heart on getting married in the Ryder room. When thinking of booking our big day I knew I had to take Michael to see this amazing room and venue. Once he had been to view it we both agreed that this was the place we were going to be wed. We got straight on the case and booked our date back in Feb 2017.

Your dress:

After beginning the exciting dress shopping with my mum and nan, I had found 3 dresses but just could decide between them. Mum said she would like me to look at The Wedding Dress Bridal Gallery as her friend work as their seamstress and says they have stunning dresses. I decided to take a look. From the moment we walked in I was excited and felt at ease. Louise and her mum made sure we were happy and supplied us with tons of beautiful dresses. I tried on a further 7dresses. When I put ‘my’ dress on I knew it was the one! I felt like a princess and fell in love with the unique design. The ladies made me feel super special and mum agreed that it had to be the one!

Groom’s attire:

Michael decided to use Dapper Dan’s for their suit hire. We went along to choose colours etc. Harley and Hudson (our boys) came along too and were super excited. We quickly chose royal blue suits with light waistcoats and blue/peach cravats. We booked appointments for grooms men and dads for fittings. All fittings went well. When it came to picking up the suits 3 days before the wedding, most of the suits didn’t fit and we had to change part of the suits and wait for amendments. This put a lot of stress on us all. By 1 day to go it was sorted.

Your bridesmaids:

After finding out my Matron of honour and one of my bridesmaids were pregnant we were very excited to explore bridesmaid dress styles et We looked at and ordered many dresses to no avail. Finally my mum and chief bridesmaid found the perfect dress for all. We ordered them and had them altered to fit my glowing pregnant bridesmaids. The looked just perfect on our day.

Your flowers:

Our room decor and flowers were supplied by Design Elegance who were great with us. We decided on our decor at their showroom and it was just perfect. Lily the florist designed our flowers spot on to what I had asked for. We were so pleased.

Your cake:

I looked on Pintrest for cake design ideas and fell in love with one design. It wasn’t in our colour scheme but I could just picture it. We found a cake maker (Claire s Cakes) and she accepted the job. It was beautiful.

Your make-up:

My amazing make up artist (Lauren Ramsay @Luxe Tan and Beauty) had been recommended to me by a friend. She talked me through different packages and we decided on the deluxe bridal package. I had a consultation with Lauren where she asked me questions and we looked through pictures together. She ordered in colours especially too. Each bridesmaid received a trial and we were so pleased with the look. I had 2 trials to make sure we were both happy. Lauren was in contact with myself, bridesmaids and mum regularly to ensure orders were correct, no details had changed etc. On the day she helped to keep me calm, nothing was too much to ask and even helped me to get into my dress!!! She made us all feel very special including mum & nan.

Your hair design:

My hairdresser, Stacie Baker, was recommended to myself by my Matron of honour as she did our hairs for her wedding too. Stacie was excited to book in our date and to get us in for trials. She listened to exactly what what we wanted and offered suggestions to help us out. On the big day Stacie made sure everyone was happy and that no one was rushing around. She tweaked the bridesmaids hairs as needed and it was lovely to have her be part of our morning!

Your videographer:

We decided to have a videographer to capture our day as well as our photographer. Our videographer, Steve Lunn @videooccasions, was great. He came for a home visit to get all the details for the day. He ensured he found out important details about family so that everyone was comfortable and he knew who was who. On the day Steve tried to be quite discreet so that we could enjoy our day without a video cam in our faces. He was ace! Can’t wait to watch our day back.

Your photographer:

Well what can I say about our choice of photographer….

Simply the best!! You were recommended to us by my Matron of honour and my bridesmaid who had booked you to capture their day in the summer of 2017. At this time I was due to be their bridesmaid. We agreed to invite you round to view your work. As soon as we met you we knew we wanted you with us on our day. You made us feel at ease with your down to earth yet professional personality and your work is just amazing. We were in love with photo’s of people we don’t even know. On our wedding day it was lovely to welcome yourself and Sophie into our room. You tried so hard to climb over us all and not to get in our way as we were rushing around, although this was near impossible ha ha. Sophie is just lovely, running around helping everyone and asking if there’s anything she can do to help. I think it is really great for the bride to have Sophie with you too. It gives your service a personal touch for the bride as Sophie ensures the dress is at its best, helps with carrying the train, flowers and makes sure your hair is just right. Love it! Nick you have such a calming persona that everything just seems to run so smoothly. You are so professional and know exactly what you want to get out of each image and don’t stop until it is accomplished.

Your most memorable moments are:

1. Receiving a photo of my boys in bed with daddy on the morning with the caption “we can’t wait to see you mummy”

2.Getting ready-a morning full of girly times, giggles & hairspray.

3. Speaking with my brother on facetime as he was unable to make the wedding as he is in New Zealand.

4.Walking down the isle with my dad clutching tightly to my arm. Looking at each other at the end of the isle, mic crying and us thinking “this is it, we are getting married”.

5.Our photo session-time for just the two of us, so special.

6.Singing waiters at the wedding breakfast-getting everyone up dancing and joining in.

7.Our first dance and father daughter dance- I was nervous but once our song had started we lived it, it was really special.

8.Having a little cry at our memory board remembering the special people that were in heaven for our big day

Your honeymoon:

Our honeymoon was incredible! We took a week in Sorrento, Italy. My mum, Mick’s mum and bridesmaids looked after the boys and my dad looked after our puppy so that we could relax and spend some well deserved time together, just the two of us. Whilst we were there we were lucky enough to visit the Amalfi coast where we took in the most breathtaking views thanks to my mum and our boys for this gift. We visited an island called Capri which we had to get to by a very fast boat! It was a beautiful island. We stayed at the Grand President Hotel which was situated up on in the mountains on a cliff face. The views were stunning day & night. We felt so lucky to be able to see such a sight. We spent a few evenings in Sorrento and then went back to the hotel and sat at the roof terrace bar taking in the sights. It was wonderful!

What advice would you give to future couples:

Our advice for future brides and grooms would be don’t panic over the little things such as simple decor, who can sit by who etc and to take a few mins now and then throughout your day to just stop, look around, listen to all of the special people in your lives all around you and think about how lucky you are. Also to love each other unconditionally, make sure you respect each other always, talk things over and don’t bottle things up-everything is best shared. Make happy plans and work hard, together, to achieve them. Have fun!
