Kirsty & Drew – Stanbrook Abbey

Stanbrook Abbey is an amazing venue and one of our favourites to shoot at. There are so many photo opportunities to choose from. Come rain or shine (as it did at this wedding) you wont be lost for places to capture some stunning images.

This wedding was an extra special one as we had previously done Kirsty’s sisters wedding a couple of years ago at New Hall Sutton Coldfield, so we had got to meet all of the family and lots of the friends. Such a great family and it was so good to see them all again. Drew’s family was just as nice, and this wedding was again, so much fun to capture.

Let’s see what the couple had to say:

The Proposal:
It was a complete surprise!! It was the 8th June 2017, We were on holiday in Mexico, we booked an excursion to an adventure park called Xel-ha. After a fantastic day, as the sun was setting he found a spot over looking a lagoon and got down on one knee, i just couldn’t stop crying (happy tears of course) it was amazing, so romantic…. completely blew me away!

Our vision for the wedding:
Right back to when I was little girl I always dreamt of a big white wedding.
The first thing we wanted was a venue that could have the ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception all at the same venue, so our guests could turn up, relax and stay over for the weekend.
We wanted something that was modern with a hint of history behind it too!
Having a church to get married in was something we originally wanted but when we saw the Abbey at Stanbrook, we were blown away. I remember watching the Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and loved how the pews were facing inwards in the church. When we saw the Abbey had the same traditional look, we were sold! Then we viewed the garden pavilion and again we just couldn’t believe how perfect everything was. We could both envisage what the day was going to be like and couldn’t wait to confirm our date.

Planning & our inspiration:
We started planning pretty much straight away, once we had confirmed our wedding date we started booking everything else such as photographer, videographer, florist and the entertainment for throughout the day.
Our vision was very natural colours, white, Ivory, peach (my nans favourite colour).
We got our inspiration from Pinterest, Wedding Fayres & open days at Stanbrook.

Brides dress and accessories?
I got my dress from Georgina Scott bridal, it was a Martina Liliana gown.
White, backless, thin straps, fishtale style with embroidered flowers all over.
I wore a diamonti hair accessory with matching earrings and bracelet.
My something borrowed was the bracelet my mom wore on her wedding day that she had sewn onto my garter.
I had a surprise gift from Drew the morning of the wedding which was a gorgeous pair of white Jimmy Choos!
I was totally in love with them!

How did the dress choice go?
I tried on about 15 different dresses, there were so many to choose from, the last dress I tried was a martina Liliana gown, The curtain was pulled back and my mom instantly started crying, that moment I knew I had found the one! It had the most amazing train, low back & fishtale style that I had always dreamed of!

Grooms attire?
Drew always knew what suit he wanted from the start! It was a tuxedo style, slim fit suit in Navy with black lapels, with a Bow tie, U style waistcoat and black shiny shoes. The challenge was getting all his groomsmen into slim fit suits, but everyone got sized up correctly and looked very dapper! Drew’s slight difference to make him stand out a little more was a black patterned bow tie, white shirt with black buttons, white pocket square and a pocket watch with a chain. He also received a gift from me on the morning of the wedding which included a Hugo Boss watch and cufflinks in black, Groom socks and a bottle of his favourite aftershave, Chanel Bleu.
All the groomsman had fresh flower button holes that matched the colour scene too.
He looked so handsome and smart and i couldn’t wait to see him on the day.

Tell us about your bridesmaids?
I had 5 in total, My sister was my matron of honour, my best friend Steph as chief bridesmaid, my cousin Chloe as bridesmaid and my other 2 best friends Hannah and Jenny as bridesmaids and 3 gorgeous page boys, my nephew Theo, Drews godson Joey and my cousins little boy Arthur, they all looked so adorable!

Tell us about your flowers?
Our florist was Nikki at Every Occasions florist in Stourbridge, My sister had used her for her wedding so I knew how amazing she was.
From the moment we met her for our first consultation to seeing the venue dressed on our wedding day she was incredible.
I even told her what table plan I had in mind and she made it especially for us, everything was exactly what we had asked for.
Everything looked perfect, couldn’t recommend her enough!

Tell us about your cake?
Drew’s Nan made our cake,
It was a large 4 tier fruit cake with peach ribbon and white lace detail all over with flowers on top. It was amazing, I burst out crying when I saw it.

Tell us about your makeup?
Having your sister as a makeup artist is the best thing ever!!
She did all our makeup on the morning, mine, my moms, and all my bridesmaids!
I thought I’d be really fussy and need a few trials but after my first trial I loved it!! What can I say she knows me well

Tell us about your photographer?

We could not recommend Nick enough, from our first consultation to receiving our photos in person, he was amazing! We were blown away with our photos, he captured our day perfectly. We got so emotional when seeing the photos as it was like reliving the day all over! Nick was so professional and goes the extra mile to get the perfect shot, he made us feel at ease the whole day and honestly he is now more like our friend than just our photographer.

Explain your details and tell us about your décor?

Firstly, we had A string quartet playing in the Abbey when guests arrived for the ceremony. Me and Drew love the film ‘The Greatest Showman’ so we picked ‘A Million Dreams’ to be played as I Walked down the aisle. They sounded fantastic and touched the heart strings throughout, they then moved to the garden area and played during the drinks reception and canapés. During the drinks reception we had a Caricaturist, who went round drawing our guests as cartoon characters which was really funny and different! We then had ‘Georgia and Prok’, an acoustic singer and guitarist playing the the most chilled out and soulful music throughout the wedding breakfast in the marquee! Towards the end they dropped a couple of upbeat songs which got everyone up dancing and in the party mood. Georgia is a friend of ours and was lovely to have her involved in our big day. When it came to the evening, we had a surprise guest ‘Sarah Sax’, who entered the room with her Swarovski Crystal Saxophone during our first dance, playing ‘All Of Me’ by John Legend. Whilst we were in our own little bubble at this time, me and Drew were in absolutely awe of her and the sound. Sarah continued to play for the rest of the night along side the excellent ‘Danny Deakins’ our DJ. Considering they had never met before, Sarah and Danny smashed it and worked really well together. The dance floor was packed and the party vibe well and truly took over, it really was the best day and night of our lives!! The Canavan light up letters were a great touch too!

Your memorable moments from the day?

Kirsty – •Walking down the spiral staircase in the bridal manor and seeing my Dad, Mom and bridesmaids at the bottom all teary eyed. •Our first dance to John legend ‘all of me’ with the surprise sax. •Me & Drew decided to take 5 minutes away from the whirlwind to take it all in and enjoy the moment. Drew – •My first glance as Kirsty at she walked towards me in the Abbey. •Seeing all of our guests enjoying themselves and dancing along to our singer and guitarist during the wedding breakfast.

Tell us about your honeymoon?

For our honeymoon we went to Dubai for 3 nights and stayed at the Atlantis the palm hotel it was pure luxury and a place we have always wanted to visit, we then flew to Mauritius for 10 nights where we stayed in the outrigger resort which was paradise. After a busy 2 years of planning our big day this was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation and a holiday we will remember forever.

Advice for other future couples?

Enjoy every moment of the planning, preparation and your wedding day as it’s over in a flash. It really is and was the best day of our lives that we will cherish forever
